There are only a handful of Ironman in our community and John Slone is aspiring to be one of them! All for the betterment of himself, his family AND our local foster children!
The Ironman is a race that requires complete Dedication, Strength and Determination. This amazingly difficult feat requires a true athlete to complete a course totaling 140.6 miles of swimming, biking and running within a 17 hour time frame~ ludicrous you say? Yes it is, to 99% of Lexington’s population. But to the elitist athlete, it’s a beast long to be tamed. To complete 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of biking and 26.2 miles of running all within a day’s time requires total dedication and over a year of intense training. Could you imagine accomplishing such a task? A fellow Lexingtonian, John Slone can and will attempt to on August 25 in Louisville, KY.
John Slone, a father, husband and local philanthropist, is a native to Eastern Kentucky, a graduate in Engineering from the University of Kentucky and a Project Manager for Gray Construction. For the past 18 months, John has dedicated 15-18 hours a week to his training; all to climb the mountain they call The Ironman! Wait, I’m not finished. As for the philanthropy part, with training, his career and family obligations aside, John has managed to obtained local sponsors to help him achieve his goal and mission of bettering the lives of our local foster children. Local businesses, friends, family and colleagues have signed on to sponsor him through this journey and have donated funds to help him achieve his goal of helping at-risk children.
All the money John has raised will be donated to The Foster Care Council of Lex Ky. If you would like to support John’s charity of choice, go to www.thefostercarecouncil.com.
